The Ego Power+ LM2101-X Has Been Discontinued, Check out Other Top Selling Ego Power+ Mowers Here
I have enjoyed using a gas-powered handheld mower for over six years, and I never thought of changing it because it worked pretty good. Even though my wife hated the noise, I still kept it because I didn’t know a better push mower. That was until a friend told me about their electric mower and I thought it wouldn’t hurt to give it a try.
I leased a EGO lawn mower for a session and let’s just say the rest is history. This is my surprising EGO LM2101-X review.
Ego Power+ LM2101-X 20 Inch: First Impressions
I decided to try out this mower first because of the several EGO electric lawn mower reviews online. Here’s what stood out the most from this electric lawn mower.
- Cordless, Quiet Operation
It is cordless, and so I do not have to worry about walking too far from the power source. I also find it quite easy to zip through obstacles in the yard (trees and structures) than one would with corded electric lawn mower.
Another thing that excites me is the reduced noise level. As much as there is the usual humming in the background, it does not sound like a power saw throughout the 37 minutes this mower is on.
- Money Saver
I am not the biggest environment crusader, but it makes me happy knowing that this mower has reduced carbon emissions as compared to any other gasoline-driven mower. I’ve also been able to save money because I only need a fully charged 56V 7.5Ah Lithium-Ion battery to work the entire lawn, and maybe a little more when I mulch.
Our bill for an entire summer of mowing and mulching is only about $15! This figure is almost unbelievable, knowing the absurd amounts we would spend in gasoline and oil changes.
I should mention here the poodles of oil that leaked off my old mower. These disdainful patches would be all over the lawn. If you are like me, you won’t think much about the damage the spills cause to the environment, but more like the mess, it creates in your yard. Cordless electric lawn mowers leave no such mess.
- Heavyweight Construction
The build is solid, and you feel it as you push it on the lawn. It is made of high-grade plastic that endures heat. Actually, the manufacturer says that it is resistant to any weather.
The 20-inch deck of the EGO LM2101-X is covered in the same hard plastic, and well raised from the ground. It has an adjustment lever on the left side, where you can adjust the height from 1.2 to 3.5 inches.
The deck is constructed in such a way that it can discharge clippings to the side, mulch, and bag. The bag that comes with this package holds up to 60 liters of clippings. The mulching function is a definite winner.
The mower reduces grass and leaves ideally for mulch, and it cleans well unless the grass is damp. I ignored the wet grass once (even though I knew better) and was rewarded with millions of grass clippings on my mower. Clean up was a pain! Otherwise the EGO electric lawn mower is very impressive.
EGO LM2101-X Review: My Experience With This Bad Boy
The EGO Power+ 20-inch mower starts immediately, almost like a riding mower (which baffles me coming from a gas-powered one that needed about 4 minutes to warm and be ready). It glides effortless on the grass, seeing that it is self-propelled and so not need much help from me.
I like the way it maneuvers all over the patch, and further than any corded lawn mower would allow. The front wheels turn to a 360-degree angle to avoid leaving little patches of unfinished work. I like leaving stripes when I mow, and so I do not mind passing the mower a second time just to get the perfect cut.
The manufacturer says that the battery lasts for up to 45 minutes. Well, I would not want to dispute that out rightly, based on my opinion, because I do not know the experience of others. In my experience, your battery will last depending on the nature of work (mulching or mowing).
If your lawn is healthy and grass thick, the motor will be tasked more, which will naturally drain your battery faster. It will not last 45 minutes, but you will finish mowing your yard without recharging it (if the patch is a ¼ acre or less).
I find mulching to drain the battery faster, especially if the leaves are thick. The motor works harder as you can tell from the noise it makes, and so you may need to recharge the battery halfway through or go for a battery that can hold a higher charge.
Oh, the green LED lights are a thing of beauty. I was always chasing the sunlight until this unit came along. Though the lights are not too bright, they still guide you through your lawn if you prefer to mow in a summer evening.
EGO Electric Lawn Mower Power+: Pros
- The LED lights.
- Quick start since no one wants to wait for 5 minutes to warm up.
- Saves you money while reducing your carbon footprint.
- No more oil patches on your newly mowed lawn.
- It is built to last.
- The deck is reasonably high with 5 height settings.
- The fact that it’s a cordless electric lawn mower allows for getting around any lawn easily.
EGO Electric Lawn Mower Power+: Cons
- This one is not a deal breaker, but rather a quality expected of a handheld mower. The deck is limited for height, seeing that it can only go as high as 3.5 inches, and so overloading it with volume will cause a clog. What I do is open it up to 3.5 inches and then mow slowly to allow it time to pack and bag the clippings.
- Moving fast will certainly lead to faster mowing, but at the same time, your clippings will pile faster, prompting the motor to work harder and hence drain the battery.

From my experience, this electric mower has not only made it cheaper to keep your yard nicely cut, but I am no longer bothering my neighbors nor my ears with a noisy mower. Yes, a powerful zero turn mower is best if you have a huge yard to cut or even a riding lawn mower; however, for the average consumer with a small yard, the compact Ego Power+ is a great option!
