GreenWorks G-MAX 40v Review
What’s To Love in Your Greenworks 20-Inch 40V Twin Force Cordless Lawn Mower
Energy Efficient:
This GreenWorkers G-MAX electric lawn mower is one of the most energy efficient ones in the market. It features Smart Cut Technology, which makes sure it uses the battery entirely. What I loved the most was the fact that it automatically adjusts the battery power to match the thickness of your grass!
The power saving feature also controls blade speeds. I did ¼ of an acre and did not deplete one battery!
Battery:
The 20-inch model I tried has two batteries of different sizes- a 40 Volt 4Ah Li-Ion Battery that can run for up to 70 minutes and a 2Ah one. These two generate enough power to cover the average home’s yard in one run. Make sure to take note when buying your electric lawn mower – the 19 and 16- inch models have two batteries of the same size.
One great feature by the manufacturer is the way the batteries automatically switch when one is out of power. Before either of them runs out, you’ll get a warning from the battery level indicator that has four levels. You activate this indicator by pushing a button on the battery.
You have to remove the batteries to recharge them on the charger. You might notice a strange smell from the charger as it works, but not to worry. That is typical with some electronic appliances. If it persists, have it checked. You can’t, unfortunately, recharge them using solar panels, but can safely use the charger on an outlet rated from 100-240 volts.
When inserting the battery into the charger, a click sound should tell you that it’s sitting correctly. And an indicator button shows the charge status of the battery.
The batteries have 2000 cycles. The approximate run time for each under load is 60 minutes for the 40v 4AH and 30 minutes for the 2AH. For a total run time of 90 minutes on average.
2-in-1 Capability
It is versatile, with both mulching and rear bagging functions. The mulching bag should be able to collect all clippings with ease. If it does not, make sure the mulching plug is unplugged.
Lightweight
The body is mostly polyethylene plastic. When I lifted it for the first time, I thought it was a toy. It weighs a mere 51lbs, and you can move it across your lawn quite quickly. Because of its weight, however, I’m not sure how long it it will last.
Design
It measures 30” by 20”.It is a walk-behind mower with a terrific combination of small twin blades (10” each) that slice grass so thoroughly, dual motorswith a brush attachment that reduce rotational weight and a 20-inch cutting deck. Each motor has 2.5 horsepower, and the mulching plug sits where the discharge hole is. To start it, simply push a button.
Settings
It has five cutting settings, from the lowest to the highest one calibrated as 1 3/8″, 1 7/8″, 2 3/8″, 2 7/8″ and 3 3/8″ in that order.
No lubricant is necessary for it to work, but you can use a light oil to lubricate the blades. You can also mow without the bag.
The handle has two height settings that are an inch apart.

Greenworks 25223 Review: The Bad
Given the size of the cutting deck and the battery power, it only works well on small or average sized surfaces. It is also not self-propelled. Despite that, it is very easy to push around because it is light.
It cannot be stored upright because it does not have a stand feature. To fold it down, loosen the cam locks on the upper handle, undo the knobs on the lower handle, squeeze in the lower handles and push them forward, and voila!-You have a neat little compact mower.
There is no variable speed adjustment, and the blade attachment is not adjustable to take thatch blades for example.
Taking Care of Your Cordless Electric Lawn Mower
Warranty
If you buy a new mower, you have the option for a four-year warranty on repairs and two years on the battery.
Do:
Store the batteries outside the mower when it is not in use. They should also stay at half charge at least if you don’t intend to use it for more than four months.
Store it in a garage/shed. Or a dry, covered place
Don’t:
Use the mulching and bagging features at the same time.
Mow over stones, twigs, sticks, and bones-that way you will preserve the mower and prevent any personal injuries.
Interchange the batteries. Use the batteries as they are. Don’t try replacing the 2ah batteries with 4ah.
To Fold the Bottom Part:
There is a knob on either side at the bottom, loosen the knobs on either side of the base. Push the sides inwards slightly then fold the mower forward. The upper part will fold backward when the top side folds forward.
To access the connection between the battery and the motor, remove the top cover.
To clean it, use a cloth or brush instead of a hose- water will naturally destroy the electrical components. Clean it immediately after use, so the stains come off easily.
To clean the grass catcher, remove the bag and let it dry in the sun, or hose it out then air dry it before putting it back.
Final Verdict of the Greenworks GMAX 40V 20″ Twin Force Mower
I love this mower, and that’s why I have a ton of praise for it. To enjoy it for the longest time, don’t let your grass grow to any height above 2 inches. Most lawn mowers can’t cut grass of that height with ease. With proper care, it will cut weeds, foliage and grass alike so quickly. The best part is that it does not require high maintenance.
