There are hundreds of Husqvarna MZ61 reviews, but most of them do not bring out the real mean machine aspect of these mowers. I thought I should take a thorough look at the zero turn mower, from the wheel size to the engine so that we can bring out everything you may need to know before you invest in your new lawn mower.
Husqvarna MZ61 27 HP Zero Turn Mower Features
- Dimensions
First, the mower looks as sturdy as most of the mowers on the market. It measures 42 x 76 x 75.5 inches and weighs well over 700 pounds. The seat is high, with adjustable steering levers that make driving it a comfortable experience.
Ideally, it is both a commercial and residential mower. The engine is quite strong to enable it to perform outside the residential restraints, but it has its limits. It has a capacity to mow 4.2 acres per hour moving at a maximum speed of 8.5 mph!
- Chokeless Start
Most people will complain about starting their mowers and failing to get them to respond. That is usually blamed on the choker. The Husqvarna MZ61 starts immediately when you turn the key, whether warm or cold.
Additionally, I noticed that the zero turn mower wouldn’t start unless you are seated on the seat, which is a safety measure put in place by the company. Unless the blade is in the “cut” mode the last time the engine stopped, then the mower will start as soon as you prompt it.
- Briggs & Stratton engine
Husqvarna mz61 V Twin Engine
When you mention Briggs to an engine enthusiast, they give their nod of approval even before they see the machine. This engine is a seller on its own! The motor is 27-horse power, and the tank holds up to 5 gallons of fuel in full capacity. The fuel tank is located on the side of the mower for easy refilling.
- Zero Turn
Zero turn mowers are known for their speed and ability to make insane turns. It does not get any better than the Husqvarna MZ61, which turns over four acres into cut grass at the efficiency only accredited to high-performing mowers. As much as this feature is an exciting one, it takes a bit of time to get your grip on the wheel and handle the speed as well as you should. It turns a bit too fast especially when you finally get a hold of the controls, which could cause you to skid. When you use it the first few times, you may want to take it slow.
- The Wheels
6 inch caster wheels
We can’t have Husqvarna MZ61 review without covering the wheels… Admittedly, the wheels on this mower are a bit tricky. The 6-inch wide front caster wheels look like they could skid from the first impression. This is not the case, as their unmarked nature is only meant to make them turn smoothly. The back wheels measure 12x10x10, and they are sturdy to keep the whole thing balanced. Caster is durable, and so with wheels like these, you won’t be worrying about maintenance or getting a replacement anytime soon.
- Control
The dual levers are padded to reduce vibration which is a good thing considering this mower moves at a great speed. The manual explains how to use the lever, but handling it expertly certainly takes a bit of getting used to. The levers give you the power to steer your mower over ditches and mild obstacles, even though you would have to get off to move larger ones such as logs.

Husqvarna MZ61 Reviews: What to Expect
Finally, my personal Husqvarna mz61 review… Husqvarna is well known among manufacturers and users alike, but you cannot judge a mower by its reputation. I had to test drive this mower to tell its power. First looks do not deceive; this mower feels as good and sturdy as it looks. It is steady from the moment you get on it, and it gives out a feel of its stability right away.
Now the controls; the company has a number of safety controls that could drive you insane. The blade has to be up, which is expected, and the dual levers have to be apart for it to start. When it is in cut mode or the levers are together, it will not start. As much as I found that infuriating at first, I quickly came to realize and appreciate why it had to be that way.
The steering wheels (levers) takes time to get used to. They determine the speed (which can be cut throat) and turning. I found myself turning too quickly one time too many, but I got better with more trials. The seat is comfortable and gives you the feeling of being in a luxury car.
This zero turn radius mower is as efficient as the manufacturer says it is. I was working on a 3-acre piece of land, and it was done in an hour (factoring in the time it took me to get comfortable with the controls). The speed is incredible and efficiency certainly worth the cost.
