Snapper XD SXDWM82K Review: Powerful & Dependable?

4.0 rating

What do you look for when shopping for a hand-pushed lawnmower? I go for sturdy construction among other things.

First of all, cordless electric lawn mowers are ideal for residential use because they consume less, have a small footprint, and do a great job. In this electric lawn mower review, we’re going to cover the Snapper XD SXDWM82K. Is it as powerful and dependable as it claims to be?

Snapper XD SXDWM82K 82V Cordless Walk Lawn Mower Review

I went online and read tons of Snapper 82-volt mower reviews from customers, and made up my mind to buy it based on the specs. Having used it five times now, these are my thoughts.

When you have used mowers for a long time, you can somehow tell its quality by pushing it and looking at the body. This mower is made of tough plastic, with some parts steel, and this combination makes it a sturdy tool.

The manufacturer says it can withstand any weather and so you should not be afraid to leave it outside at any time, but I am not going to test that theory. My investments stay safe and warm in the shed until I need them.

Briggs & Stratton 82V lithium ion 2.0Ah battery

Unlike gas or electric powered mowers, lithium-ion batteries power this hand-pushed mower. It needs two to run efficiently (both of which come with the package). The system is designed in such a way that when one is depleted the other takes over.

On a bright sunny day, and the grass at two inches or lower, the batteries will run for 20 minutes on high (max). This time is usually just fine for an ordinary lawn. Wet grass will need more motor power, and so it will deplete them faster. The same applies with thick, healthy grass. Hilly landscapes also tax the motor more and drain the batteries faster.

You can purchase the lithium-ion 2.0Ah and 4.0Ah batteries separately, being keen to ensure that you got the right specs for compatibility. They take about an hour to charge fully with the charger that comes in the package.

Lightweight Lawn Mower

It weighs 90lbs, which is neither too much nor too little. It is not self-propelling, a feature I chose because it gives you a workout just pushing it on the lawn. The wheels glide smoothly on the grass and the 90lbs help here, making the overall mower quite easy to push.

Snapper XD Motor

A Briggs & Stratton motor powers the mower. Briggs & Stratton have been doing this for over a century, making some of the most powerful motors and engines. So they know what they are doing. The motor gives it the power to slide comfortably over the ground and to reduce mowing time drastically.

Since the motor is not gas powered, it is relatively quiet. I cannot say it makes no noise at all (unrealistic), but it hums comfortably to make it possible to do other chores with it running. I have not done a proper assessment (I should), but I would give it 90dB. This is quite low compared to the roar of a gas-powered motor.

Now, does that make it less efficient? Not at all. It works just as well as a gas powered motor, save for that fact that it is cordless (yet another plus).

Cordless Electric Lawn Mower

Cords can be pretty annoying in their innate ability to hinder you from reaching the furthest parts of your lawn. I have a feeling that corded mowers will eventually become extinct, but in the meantime, those who put up with them deserve a medal for patience.

The good old’ Snapper XD SXDWM82K 82V goes as far as you want it without restrictions. Handles obstacles like a pro, too, seeing that it is quite small (at 18.31 x 24.21 x 35.04 inches).

Easy Storage

It is quite small already, but you can snap the handle to make it even smaller when storing. The handle folds into two, making the rest of the package compact.

Snapper 82 Volt Mower Review: What I Don’t Like

It is not self-propelled, and so physically challenged people will have a problem pushing this 90 lb push lawn mower. It is not too much effort for those without any challenges, but it could be too much for others. I also find the motor to be a tad limited in its ability to work on wet grass. The clippings hold into the deck, clogging it up and warranting a clean up before you can proceed.

Most retailers are not straightforward with battery life. 45 minutes is pushing it too far, even though the average yard will take 20 minutes max (which is the time you get from these lithium batteries).

My Thoughts

snapper xd sxdwm82k review fold upI like the deck size and its height adjustments. 21 inches of a deck in this little mower is no small feat. The deck cuts time spent on cutting grass almost by half! I also think that the vertical storage alignment in the deck leaves enough space for storing grass clippings.

It cuts up to 4.5 inches of grass, but I walk slower when working with long grass. First, it drains the batteries faster, but the next reason to walk slower is to avoid clogging the deck. Additionally, walking faster leaves a few uncut areas, and I hate going back and forth to perfect my work.

It has impressive bagging capabilities. I have only had a concern once, but I realized I had hooked the damn thing wrong. Even so, it aligns the clippings excellently on both sides, which makes collection quite easy.

It’s quite easy to use, so easy that you will not need to refer to the manual.

To Buy Or Not

I forgot to mention that it starts instantly, unlike gas-powered mowers. The Snapper XD SXDWM82K 82V works well, clears a small yard in less than 20 minutes, all the while making minimal noise. It makes me look forward to cutting grass, and so I would recommend it to any homeowner. Also, you save lots of money on gas and lower your carbon print.
